Blizzard introduced:
Terran: reapers, which jump over cliffs
Protoss: the ability to warp in units anywhere close to powered places in tandem with the new phase prisms, stalkers that can teleport over obstacles, collosi with which to walk over them
Zerg:Nydus worms, which can seemingly appear anywhere

In doing so, Blizzard has effectively eliminated chokepoints, valleys, and high-ground advantage. is this good or bad?

state your thoughts.

well it definitely changes the gameplay. No longer can your defense be based on a single entrance. You basically need to have defenses on every part of your base, this makes it a lot more difficult in terms of defensive gameplay.

You could send a sacrificial overload into someones base (just to clear the fog of war), and then nydus right in the center of their base! scary stuff

Im sure the blizz team will keep it balanced, but i think in general it will reduce the time a game lasts. Also, much less likely to have 'stalemate' games when n00bs are playing.

I think we are overreacting to the Nydus worms. In all likelyhood they will function just as Nydus Canals always have. The only reason they come up in the middle of nowhere in the video is because they do not yet have a final design for the creep we all crave so much to see.

Hopefully there will be "high walls" that cannot be passed by jumpers or walkers. If not, a lot of bases will have to start being isolated by water or space so as not to leave players vulnerable from the start.

yeah, they needed like 2 seconds of animation to start working, and several more to get all the zergs out. by then im guessing the seige tanks(or anything) will have blown them to kingdom come.

we forget how much teching it may take to get these obstacle eliminating junkies, we can still hold a choke a point with the classic bunker-tank-turret combo, then just chill our evergrowing army around a suspected assault edge.

Besides, they cant come from a side that has nothing but space on it, it will just be a new thing to adapt to, im not worried, air is still better at avoiding obsticles, so if we could handle that, we can handle these.

besides, i always hated matches where both sides just went SO defensive it never ended until one ran out of minerals, this makes it so offensive strikes are more encouraged. a battle of attrition.

ur right, but that is nothing new, thats like dropshipping, i was reffering to the new jump/blink mechanic, and the collossus walker.

for phase prisms it's just like before, anti air and internal scattered defenses.

There is much we have yet to see. I would be very surprised if the terrans did not recieve something that will make us all say "omg terrans are rigged now", like most people believe of the protoss currently. But, until Blizzard decides to feed us some more juicy meat... We're stuck fighting for scraps.

Yes, Blizzard likes to let their customers know that their games will be ready when the say it is, and not a moment sooner.

^^ I would love to watch that swarm of zerglings turn into a massive puddle of blood.

I think that each race should do the whole "bypass the walls system" differently. Protoss have walk-over and teleport. Terrans have jump-jets, quite possibly becoming air units for a few seconds. Zerg will have something new... Maybe the ability to scale walls with some units?

Protoss had one small and one big unit that could pass walls (Stalker + Collosus).
Terrans have shown small unit (Reaper). What could their larger one be? Can you imagine a Goliath leaping a wall with jump jets? And what about our Zerg friends? Could they scale walls with some small infantry unit and then have a big ultralisk-like creature burrow into the wall and erupt from beneath the battle? Having two kinds of units raid in this manner gives them more variety and the ability to react to different situations.

personally i think having just one new unit with one new idea is enough. i have a wierd feeling that many players will get put off if lots of terran units start getting the same ability. in fact i dont like the idea of scaling walls at all, controlling chokepoints used to be my best strategy
