New $400 40GB PS3 and 80GB price drop

The new 40GB PS3 comes out on November 2nd for $400. Also, the current 80GB PS3 is now only $500.

This is good news, but there's some bad news too. The 40GB PS3 does NOT have backward compatibility! It does not have the Emotion Engine and it does not have software emulation! I suppose they could release software emulation for it later though.

I want a PS3.. and the 80GB, however there is NO WAY im going to dish out $500... The highest I'd dish out is maybe 200-300 max..

I can now buy two of the PS3's now since I sold my old one.

Too bad there's nothing worthwhile to play on it yet.

Yeah. I think the PS3 will have better luck in 2008. Lots of games are due to be released next year. The PS2 also got off to a slow start at first.

And, I'm sure the Wii will do even better next year... with Super Smash Bros. Brawl coming out!

I think that even if I had played both MGS4 and Halo 3.... I'd probably like MGS4 better.  MGS4 isn't even out yet and I have never even played a Halo game, but I am a MGS fan... so it's nothing more than an untested, somewhat biased opinion.  I'm sure I'll love Brawl though.... it already has tons of amazing characters and they haven't even all been announced yet!

Halo is great.. but Halo 3 alone isn't enough for me to buy a 360.

BTW, isn't ps3 online play free? and I know 360 charges...

Wii and PS3 are both free to play online.

yeah and it benefits me more to get a ps3, because 2 of my cousins have it and they lvie 1 hr away. So I could always call them up and play via online.

I don't play much games these days.. so paying for xbox 360 live would be a waste, that is IF I got a 360.

Sony says it will NOT cut prices or have any specials.

I hate the sony CEO.

I have to admit it's pretty dumb. The price should have been cut at least twice by now. Unfortunately, maybe they just can't afford to make price cuts like Microsoft can.

Apparently PS3 is going to have a price cut in a week and also release the ps3 slims on the same day.

I believe they said it would be Aug 18... but no 100% confirmation yet.

Wow! Well, it's about time they did that. Hopefully it's not just a bunch of stupid rumors. It would be nice if more people had PS3s because of lower prices.

Well I made a new thread on the price cuts. Like I said Today Aug 18.. it happened.

It was a rumor, but it sounded fairly credible. So there is a huge pricecut on all the ps3 consoles. The ps3 slim is going to be out in a few weeks too
