so far i've had mixed feelings from starcraft 2 sounds. i hate the new zealot and zergling sounds. the new dragoon, marine and reaver sounds do not impress me. however the new nuke, ghost, nydus worm, and black hole sound was amazing!

i like the new sounds, idk what u dislike but i dont agree, the zealots show passionate devotion and the immortals are kikassbadfuck man. they hint at their old life as a warrior.

yes sounds are important tho.

Sounds give personality to a character/unit. I havnt memorised how the sounds compare between sc1 and sc2, but generally i loved the sc2 gameplay demo.

Zealots have a lot more fluid movement but sounds are slighyly more electronic. Their attack sound is more of a slash (higher pitch), whereas previously it was a thuding noise (lower pitch). Its not that bad, I think you will get used to it.

If anything, the sounds are more authentic now. As for protoss voice, sholdn't they be more mechanical? These guys have augmented themselves with mechanical enhancements so much that it shouldn't be too surprising.

Kinda off topic, but how do Protoss Speak if they lack mouths? I always chalked it up to telepathy. But, if the race comminicates telepatically, why would they have evolved ears? And, if they don't have ears, how do they communicate with humans? Can they just read their minds? This same ability would be very useful in combat... And, if the can communicate telepathically, why do they need comm-links established between ships before each mission in the campain?

**Don't reply to this second paragraph. I have started a new thread on this topic.**

Really the only organic protoss unit is the Zealot, and I think their voices sound better now. The rest are all constructs or piloted vessels.

only organic unit? what about the two types of templars?

and btw, the ears could have been vestigial. and u can make fairly intelligable noises w/out opening ur mouth. vibrations travel through flesh, why not toss-skin, it might be especially good at letting noise through.
and about the ears again, they dont evolve dude. lol, they were made by the xelnaga as the perfect essence, just as zerg were the perfect form. essence and form.
so evolution doesnt matter.

and in awnser to brainwasher's last post: think outside the box man, they could have mechanical lung augmentations that let them run really far w/out gettin tired or panting. that might change voices. or something in the throat.

if we're talking about alien psychics, we might as well be creative about it.

i think it'd be a bit too detailed...whoever heard of panting units in a strategy game?

lol He makes a very good point. Maybe we are overthinking this. Blizzard's job is to create a game, not an entire species that is entirely explained. At some point we just have to accept that things are the way they are.

i probably never will:( my favorite sounds from starcraft are zealot attacking, marines dying, yamato, and hydralisks dying. the new zealot sounds weak compared to the old one. who would like that flimsy sweeping noise compared to the old jagged one?
