Starcraft 2 has finally been announced, and I for one am most interested in my favorite side the zerg. Not much has been revealed about them, so this thread can be used for updating on them. I cant wait to see the new look of the queen of the blades. But yes the swarm is back and more gruesome than ever, be assimalated or be devoured...enemies of the swarm beware. I

You know in the video, the nydus canals spawn on brown sections on the terrain. Do you think thats creep? it definitely doesnt look like creep.

If it isnt, it means the swarm can attack by teleporting to any part of the map using a nydus! that would be sweeeet

I'm pretty sure that it was asteroid rock not creep. So yes the swarm is even more mobile than before.

It would seem every race has a drop-off technique:

Warp-in for Protoss ( with Phase Prisms ), Nydus Worm for Zerg ( though there must be limitations, such as fog-of-war restriction or cross-platform restrictions ).

How about the Terrans, then?

Thats the problem... the gameplay video by blizzard concentrated so much on protoss that it didnt really show much about the zerg or terran. Thats such a tease!!!! they know the most popular race is zerg.

Well it's obviously a matter of opinion, but I always found the Zerg to be a little too icky. After learning the game with Terran, I found myself comfortable with the Protoss.

I think thats one of the reasons many love the zerg... when they die, you get blood splattered everywhere :dancing:

That and the fact they are a greater 'challange' to play with.

I admit, I do love the zerg. But I was always turned off by the fact that it became dificult to control your armies as you began to mass small units (an essential part of the zerg). The new ability to highlight any number of units at once will certainly allow for much better zerg control.

on starship troopers(i think) the animated version had the soldiers dropping from outerspace in huge iron pods and smashing into the ground before popping out. halo2 had something like that as well.

maybe terrans...?

but at the same time, remember how blizzard said that they would make all the races 'even more different' so maybe the terrans wont have special transportation.

In my opinion, Terrans have always been more about defensive positions and rapid colonization.

But, if you look closely, there is a new transport feature for Terrans. In the gameplay trailer the Terran Comand Center lands and immediately releases 4 SCVs. This implies that it may be possible to load units into your flying buildings. Great for starting a quick base when you need too. Also makes fleeing with a Command Center that much better.

the first crazy idea that pops into my head is flying a command center into an enemys base, and killing off their SCV's with yours before they know whats goin on, then u start mining from their own minerals while u build a barracks in their base.

I always made it a point to think of stupid crazy strategies that no one would ever expect. I once floated 20 barracks over a zerg base so he couldnt see his base, so he couldnt click on his own buildings, making it so he couldnt produce any unts. i won :D

ud be surprised how many times i do in-oppenents-base strats w/out them noticing, most people simply dont expect a behind enemy lines attack.

i dont think transportation is ever a problem for terran, although new transports have been invented/evoloved for the other races, the terran can transport thier buildings, they dont need another way to get troops around the map.

besides, if everyone had an equivilent of every unit, it would be too simple to balance, thats not blizzards style, except in warcraft 3 :p

He's right. They all will be balanced, of that there is no doubt, but the races should NEVER resort to having "equivalent" units. That's not starcraft. I always felt that the Valkarie Frigate, Corsair, and Devourer were too similar for my liking. But even then, they all had different abilities to make them function in entirely different matters from each other.

Building transport is too slow to be the only method of transport... But I guess the dropships will be able to cover any other deployment needs.

Zergy, eh? Can't say I've ever heard that adjective before. What could be described as Zergy besides and army of zerglings bashing on your base?

Makes me think of a friend of mine. He twitches at the mention of the phrase Zerg Rush. ^^
